Acupunture

An Ancient Chinese technique to control pain, promote balance and intitate your bodies innate ability to heal itself.
Acupuncture is one of the oldest healing practices in the world, believed to have originated in China over 3000 years ago. Its based on the ancient Chinese theory that energy (qi) and blood (xue) flow through 12 Meridians (or Channels) and 8 Extra-Ordinary Meridians which are located all over the body. Specific points lie along these pathways (acupuncture points) A fine needle inserted within these points gently stimulates the movement of qi, which in turn encourages the healthy flow of blood and fluids, assisting the body to heal itself.

As part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture is based on the concept that disease results from disruption in the flow of qi/blood or fluids and imbalance in the forces of yin and yang - resulting in an imbalance in the body.

The purpose of acupuncture is the promotion of balance. No pain should be felt. In general, people will experience a free flow of energy, a subtle tingling feeling or electrical sensation around the needle or traveling up and down the body or a generalised ache.

Cupping

Ancient Chinese Therapy encouraging clearance of inflammation and promotion of fresh blood - resulting in the release of muscle spasm and tension
Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy and is used to relieve acute and chronic pain, muscle stiffness/tension, headaches, soft tissue injury and inflammation.

Glass cups can be applied on various muscular parts of the body, by either using flame to create a vacuum or extracting the air from the cup with a pump.

This acts to improve the circulation of both energy (Qi) and blood (xue) into the local area, promoting the delivery of nutrients which in turn promotes healing and lymphatic circulation.

Intitally, after the cups have been applied, there may be some purple marks left on the skin, their appearance can last up to a week-this confirms the area has deep-seated blood stagnation. With frequent application the purple marks reduce, eventually leaving no mark - indicating improvement of circulation (and thus health) through the region of concern.

The after effect of this treatment can be very relaxing.

Moxibustion

Ancient Chinese Therapy to promote warmth, thus encouraging Qi/Blood flow and enhancement of acupunctures benefical effects.
Moxibustion or Moxa is the burning of Chinese herb called mugwort. The moxa can come in many forms, including cigar-like moxa rolls, and compressed smokeless sticks and cones which are placed on top of the needle - the applied heat encourages Qi/Blood flow which further enhances the beneficial effects of the acupuncture.

When burnt, Mugwort's warming nature is helpful for expelling cold and damp from the body as well as warming the body’s channels. Warmth helps to move stagnation, and regulate the Qi and blood. And by placing the moxa cones on top of the acupuncture needle, it enhances the beneficial effect of that particular acupuncture point.

There is no need to be concerned about the burning factor of moxibustion therapy as it's very safe when performed by a qualified and skilled acupuncturist.

Electro-Acupuncture

Professionally trained and certified
Electro-acupuncture is a form of acupuncture where a small electric current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. According to some acupuncturists, this practice augments the use of regular acupuncture, can restore health and well-being, and is particularly good for treating pain.

Acupuncturists connect a TENS unit to acupuncture needles, producing a stronger effect, interrupting the pain pathway messages and thus promoting an analgesic type effect.
